SSCR β€” How to Use

What You Need

  • A webcam or USB camera pointed at your track's finish line
  • 1–4 slot cars on the track
  • This file open in Chrome, Edge, or Firefox

Step 1 β€” Mount Your Camera

Position the camera above or at an angle so the finish line is clearly visible. Keep the camera completely still during the race β€” even slight vibration can cause false detections.

Step 2 β€” Set Total Laps

Enter how many laps a car needs to complete to win under Race Setup. Default is 5.

Step 3 β€” Draw Detection Zones

Each car gets a small detection box drawn over its lane at the finish line. When a car passes through its zone, the motion triggers a lap count.

  1. Click a Car button (Car 1–4) under Detection Zones β€” it will glow.
  2. On the camera view, click and drag to draw a small rectangle over that car's lane at the finish line.
  3. Release the mouse to confirm. A checkmark (βœ“) will appear.
  4. Repeat for each car racing.
πŸ’‘ Make zones small and lane-specific. A narrow box just wide enough for one lane works best. Zones that are too large may pick up adjacent cars.

Step 4 β€” Adjust Motion Sensitivity

The Motion Sensitivity slider controls how easily motion triggers a lap. The motion bar inside each zone shows activity in real time β€” the dashed line marks the current threshold.

  • Slide left (lower) β€” triggers on subtle motion. Use if cars are small or fast.
  • Slide right (higher) β€” requires more movement. Use if getting false laps.

Step 5 β€” Start the Race

Press β–Ά Start. The background is captured at this moment β€” make sure no cars are sitting in the zones when you press Start.

The race clock starts immediately. Each time a car crosses its zone, the lap is counted and timed. The zone will flash and show "LAP!" on screen.

Step 6 β€” Scoreboard

The right panel shows live standings including position, laps completed, last lap time, best lap time, and a progress bar. The signal dot next to each car shows: green = detected, yellow = weak signal.

Step 7 β€” Winner

The first car to complete the set number of laps wins and a gold banner appears with the total race time.

Reset

Press β†Ί Reset to clear all laps and times. Detection zones are kept so you don't need to redraw them.

Recapture Background

If lighting changes mid-race, press ⟳ Recapture Background. Make sure all cars are out of the detection zones first.

Troubleshooting

  • False laps triggering β€” raise the sensitivity slider, or check for shadows/reflections in the zone.
  • Laps not detected β€” lower the sensitivity, or make the zone slightly larger.
  • Camera vibration issues β€” secure the camera mount and press Recapture Background.
⚠ Press Start only when the finish line is clear. The background snapshot taken at that moment is what motion is compared against.
